With the introduction of the Giulietta, Alfa Romeo has created the formula "small car, great performance" that, from that moment on, will characterize the best cars produced by the Milanese brand. First of the Giulietta, the Giulietta Sprint Coupé designed by Bertone that made its debut at the Turin Motor Show in April 1954, equipped with a 1.3 liter engine, the aluminum version of the traditional twin-shaft engine from Alfa, the result of a project by Engineer Giuseppe Busso, in force of Ferrari before arriving at the Milanese house. The first series, the "Series 750" of the 1954 Giulietta Sprint Coupé was soon joined by the Berlina and Spider versions. Designed and built by Pininfarina, also remembered for being the first car produced in certain volumes by the famous Turin coachbuilder, Spider has brought such a level of constructive and mechanical refinement on small sports cars that, since the moment of its presentation, has made suddenly aging all the cars produced by the competition. With such an origin, it is not too surprisingly that the Spider was a huge success, becoming the smallest best-selling sports car in continental Europe, able to continue its success even after 1959, when it was presented in its new form of Series 101, revised and amended with the adoption of a longer step. The success of the Giulietta family surprised, first of all, the Alfa itself: the production targets were revised upwards and, in 1956, to satisfy the requests for increased performance, the "Fast" versions were introduced. both the Sprint coupe and the open Spider version. The Veloce engine is equipped with two Weber carburetors that, replacing the single Solex carburettor of the smaller models, allow the engine to develop a power of 90 hp, with a gain of ten horses. The new Giulietta Sprint Veloce was soon successfully used in competitions, winning its class in the twenty-third Mille Miglia, where it finished in eleventh absolute position. Other class victories have been won in the Dolomites Cup, the Tour de France and the Mille Miglia, with another victory won in the Alpine Rally. One of the two owned by the seller, this Giulietta Spider Veloce entered the current collection in 2003, where it has always been kept ready for use.The car is equipped with a very rare hardtop made by Pininfarina that not only makes it usable in winter but also improves the already splendid body lines created by Pininfarina.
