The Giulietta, and later the Giulia are the cars that took Alfa Romeo from being a relatively small production company to being an economically viable and successful firm. Prior to that, they had produced large and expensive cars, and never in very large numbers. With the Giulietta and Giulia Series, however, Alfa Romeo produced significant numbers of these charming and capable cars. Its success was due in part to its unique placement in the market. It was neither a large hugely expensive car, nor was it very small utility car (such as the Fiat 500). Instead, they were affordable enough so that many could buy them, yet permitted a more glamorous and useful approach to motoring that really struck a chord with buyers on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Giulietta Veloce enjoys the honor of being the highest performing and most developed open variant of the 1300cc line, thanks to its venerable twin cam engine, twin Weber carburetors, higher compression ratio, and hotter cam profiles. Performance was much improved over the standard cars.

According to Marco Fazio of Alfa Romeo Historica, this matching numbers factory Veloce Spider was manufactured on the 28th of July 1960, and sold to its first U.S. owner by Hoffman Motor Cars in October of 1961. It was originally black, presumably with red interior, as it presents today. Under the recent long-term ownership period this lovely 101 Series Giulietta Veloce Spider has a steady mount for 1000 mile road rally events in the USA, and been maintained and event prepared in a no-expense spared fashion by Conrad Stevenson, the highly regarded Alfa Romeo specialist in Berkeley, California.

Work documented on file by Mr. Stevenson includes the following in chronological order 1998:

2000:

2002:
2004:

2012:

Now a veteran of approximately fifteen California Mille Miglia and similar type rallies over the last 17 years of ownership, the cosmetic presentation is not that of a concours queen, but rather a great running and driving with event patina.

Giulietta Veloces are coming into their own as collector cars. Not only are the beautiful and technically interesting, but they among the most fun to drive cars ever built, which is one reason they are so popular on events. Indeed, these cars often share garage space with top tier classics like Ferrari 275's or Mercedes Gullwings as a lower-stakes but still very enjoyable car to use and enjoy.

This particular car represents an exceptional opportunity to acquire a genuine Giulietta Veloce Spider that is in excellent running condition and is ideal for event use around the globe. It will be sold FOB Germany, with EU duty paid, on a California title showing a 1962 year model.
