PREVIOUS OWNERS: LUCKY LEWIS (ORIGINAL OWNER)

1962 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce. This is Veloce is true a barn find, and yes, it is a true Veloce. These don't come up for sale everyday, so don't let this one pass you by, who knows how many of these vehicles are left- and especially in this condition. This Alfa has been in my family since 1966, last ran in 1968, and this car did run when parked. The head gasket developed a leak in 1968, my grandfather parked the car with full intentions of fixing it, but repairing the car fell through the cracks and he just never got around to the job of fixing it. The good thing for you is that you will get a UN-molested, super rare Alfa that is ready for you to restore and enjoy.

This Alfa has sat in dry storage for the last 44 years and has moved locations 3 times. The left front tire only recently stopped holding air otherwise all the tires still inflate. The overall condition is good and solid, much better in person than in photos. You could make it go and stop in its current condition, but a full restoration is a bit more in order.

This Alfa really suffers from neglect more than anything and as it sits is about 97% completely in tact. Their are two small areas where rust is a concern. In the trunk under the front edge of where the battery would sit has rusted through. It is about a 2" long strip where the metal has split- the material is still all there though. The other area is where the steering column enters the engine compartment, the metal is all there it is just an area of concern.

The motor has never been out of the car and is correct for the vehicle.

The interior is in fantastic shape, the paint on the dash is shinny, no tears in the seats, shinny chrome around the gauges. The bad would be that their is a small crack in the steering wheel, the seats are a bit discolored and the piling of the carpet is shedding. The radio was in the car when my grandfather bought it, I have no knowledge of how or why it is there, or where the cover for the blank has even gone.

UPDATE: JANUARY 8, 2021 SMIEKEL COLLECTION
This is a very low milage Veloce Spider that has been in storage since 1968 and now has been sympathetically restored retaining all original parts when possible. The spider is very quiet and tight befitting a low milage car and performs well with the rebuilt original engine and driveline. The exterior has been repainted the original color with the original paint in good condition on the rest of the car. The seats looked good but the foam had dried out and the vinyl was too stiff from age to repair so new foam and leather seats were installed. The top and boot also were replaced with new canvas.
Please contact us at thesmiekelcollection.com for more details on the restoration and history of the spider.
