It was converted to race specification in 1992. In 2005 it was imported to Britain from Holland where it had been raced successfully in Dutch national championships. It was then raced in Britain and on the Continent, in HSCC and other events, until acquired by its current owner in 2011 after which it was used only for ‘speed’ events such as the annual Crystal Palace sprint and the Course de côte d’Etretat-Bénouvile where it holds a class record.

The car has been in hibernation over the past eighteen months and so will be in need of a full service and overhaul especially in respect of the braking and fuel systems. More information from the current owner: I’m afraid that I can’t give you all the information you asked for right now. The car resides some way away from where I live and I’m not due to visit it in the near future. However, I can give you some bits and pieces which might be helpful. According to the Alfa Romeo Historic Archive the car, chassis number AR 161454, was manufactured on 18 December 1961. The colour was gardenia white. It was supplied new to a company in Kuwait.

The 1300 engine currently installed was built by Bob Dove but I’ve no idea if any S.V. elements were incorporated into its assembly.

I have little knowledge of its history before 1992, the time when it was converted into a race car by Marcel Sontrop in Holland. Amongst papers which came with the car there is a UK tax disc dated March 72 giving the registration as OPX 60 E. There is also what appears to be a Dutch import document dated 29 December 1986. The importer is named as Dhr.H.Slop and it was imported from Derbyshire.

If I can find out any more about it, from previous owners, I will let you know.
Best wishes.
Andrew Jackson.
